How it Began and Become Historic

Those who have been to Hamleys know that it’s more than your ordinary toy store. Hamleys has brought smiles to millions of people across the globe for centuries. Its toys are one of the finest in the world, sourced responsibly and laboratory tested to comply with international toy standards. The first store was opened in London’s High Holborn in 1760 by Cornishman William Hamley. Today, Hamleys Regent Street flagship store remains the world’s most wonderful toy shop, synonymous with theatre, magic and entertainment. It welcomes more than 5 million customers annually. Hamleys was originally named ‘Noah’s Ark’. This is what William Hamley originally called his store and filled it with 2 of every toy he could possibly find. The game of Table Tennis originated in Hamleys, it started off as just a game called ‘Gossima’. It grew in popularity and is now an Olympic Sport!

Hamleys caters to people of all ages, be it or old and the company strives to make their customers happy. They sell everything from soft toys to board games to dress-up costumes and outdoor sports equipment; toy vehicles, toys, arts and crafts, and much more. Today, Hamleys is one of the oldest and largest toy retailers in the world. Despite changing hands, names, disaster, and uncertainty, this classic toy store holds fast with a rich history to back it up.

Hamleys got bombed 5 times during World War II! But still the staff kept on working! Hamleys has their own sweet concept in-store Hamleys launched their own sweet concept in February 2012 called Scrumpalicious. The Brand’s Mascots are Hamley & Hattie Bear. Hamleys is already a proven international retailer with an established presence in the Middle East, India, Ireland and Denmark and other territories also in the pipeline. It is now building on this international presence to develop a truly global business, leveraging the quality and range of its toys, combined with the theatre, entertainment and retail experience.

Hamleys Has Stood the Test of Time

Hamleys has been for the last 260 years, making it me oldest and largest toy franchise in the world. In 2010, Hamleys was awarded Green Plaque on its 250th anniversary. They have survived for this long, even though history has thrown the store plenty of curveballs, without losing the charm of their product.

The British multinational toy retailer has been the toy store of the Royal Family and thousands of children over the years. And it seems as if it will continue to be for decades to come. The products that Hamleys has sold might have changed over time, but the delight of its customers has not. If William Hamleys was here today, he would definitely be proud of the legacy he created.
